What if you obtain something more inexpensive, smaller, and lighter than a laptop computer but worked just as conveniently? Now you can. Digital pens have only been around for a few years, but they are quickly gaining in popularity. They have also improved their technology over the past couple of years making them now easier to use than ever before.

You simply take notes or draw diagrams on any kind of paper (you no longer need special paper) with your pen and receiver and then at a later time, plug it into your computer and download your notes, converting them into digital text. You can even select keywords from your notes if you’re looking for something specific. Now you may be thinking, “Why can’t I just input my notes directly into my laptop as I’m sitting in class?” Well, what happens when the professor draws a diagram, graph, or chart that you need to copy? Do you really have time to design one on your computer at that moment? Besides, you’re going to have to edit your notes later anyway. Why not just edit them as you are downloading them into the computer?

Some digital pens can even store videos, music, pictures, and files. The memory card can store hundreds of pages of notes, but you can always delete files once they are downloaded onto your computer to save room on the pen. There are also digital pens that can be synchronized with audio recordings. Some pens have Bluetooth wireless abilities and handwriting recognition. Basically, the more recent the pen, the more capabilities it has. Different brands have different features, so you definitely want to shop around for the latest technology before making your purchase.

One digital pen that was designed for youngsters comes with specially coded paper that enables the user to draw a calculator and then use it for adding, etc. They can draw a piano and then play music on it. It seems like more of a toy, but has practical uses as well. You can email your notes and even keep them in your original handwriting for a more personal touch. If your handwriting isn’t the greatest, then you can certainly convert the writing into digital text.

Digital pens used to require special ink, special paper and perhaps even a computer nearby. The advances in technology today allow most digital pens including the Dane Elec Zpen, to be used on any kind of paper, a variety of types of ink can also be used, and a computer need be nowhere around. All you need is the pen and a small receiver for transmitting your notes. Taking notes and converting drawings has never been easier.
